Subtle Energy Medicine

Energy medicine is often dismissed as “woo woo.” On the contrary, I have found it to be incredibly effective, simple, and grounding.

Energy medicine has a profoundly relaxing effect on the nervous system and is increasingly being recognized as an important healing modality in support of vital health and wellness.

This work is particularly great for those who are stuck in a high stress response, have a history of trauma, or just need more of a sense of calm in their bodies.

I have been fortunate to be taught Reiki and other energy modalities from several wonderful teachers and tend to practice a blend of energy work. During sessions, patients are fully clothed and lying comfortably on a massage table. Energy-only sessions last about 45 minutes to 1 hour, though subtle energy work is infused into all my sessions.

In Reiki, practitioners are considered to be conduits of universal energy (or, chi), and direct this energy to the body by placing their palms on or above the body, usually near energy known energy centers of the head, heart, belly, knees, and feet, while you relax.

According to Reiki.org:

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

What I love about Reiki is, at its core, it is simply that: hands-on healing. And, it does not harm. At worst, it brings a sense of calm and ease, bringing soothing the nervous system. It does not cure, it just helps to bring balance and equilibrium, which is supportive for healing and wonderful preventative medicine.

Sometimes I include other energy modalities such as guided visualization, simple breathwork, chakra work (from the feminine perspective as taught to me by Tami Kent), or essential oils, depending on your specific needs and desires.

As a Reiki Master, this energy is infused into all the hands-on services I offer patients. Patients often report a deep sense of peace and warmth during and after sessions.
